#Vietnam – Dining Experience

Last night the owner of NhΓ  HΓ ng HΖ°Ζ‘ng QuΓͺ Restaurant in Hanoi invited us to join him and his family for a Vietnamese dining experience. His driver collected us from our apartment in a luxury minivan with fully reclinable seats and large screen TV, all the bells and whistle one would need on the open road.  This car would have come in handy for our last trip to Mai Chau Hideaway.

The beautiful garden restaurant has many private wooden dining houses spaced out along a swan lake which allows for intimate dining with family and friends.  They offered us an unlimited selection of food, including some delicacies placed on a rotating table.  Each private dining house has its very own waiting staff tending to the dinners every need.  There is no waiting to catch the staffs attention because your glass is always topped up before you can finish, and you never have a dirty plate in front of you.

We sampled spicy catfish, prawns, roast chicken, speciality rice, pork belly, selection of vegetables, followed by a rare fish Hot Pot, abalone porridge and finished off with pomelo fruit and tea.

On leaving, we were gifted with two bottles of Italian wine to end a memorable evening, and the chauffer shuttled us safely home.

As many of you know, I am not an adventurous eater, and this experience was way out of my comfort zone, but I did sample everything.  I am not converted but happy that I tried and enjoyed the occasion with a very welcoming family.

#Vietnam – Sweet Neighbour

My sweet little Vietnamese neighbour buzzed my doorbell without stopping early this morning. Thankfully I had finished my bath and dressed, but my hair was a different story. Anyway, the reason for today’s visit was to ask for help in threading two needles, she needs glasses but doesn’t have. I obliged! She felt the need to reward my efforts and dragged me back to her apartment, where she rummaged through her contents for a gift.

Wait for it, wait for it………..πŸ™ŠπŸ™ˆπŸ™‰πŸ˜±πŸ˜±πŸ˜±πŸ˜±πŸ˜±πŸ˜±πŸ˜±

Yes, a few fish heads with hand sign instructions on how to make it, and sauces to use etc. I was bewildered and left, knowing I couldn’t reject her gift.

Five minutes later, she returned, making sure I had ingredients, and where I must cook it.

Bless her kind soul, but each time my doorbell rings, (she has a distinct manner she rings a bell and you know it’s her), I feel panicked as to what weird and exotic treats she has installed for me.

She keeps life interesting.

Today’s gift is by far my least favourite. The rascals agree the live prawn’s launching themselves out of the pot, crying for freedom was a close 2nd place if we had a beach closeby the kids would have set them free. The children refused to harm the helpless prawns which I had to regift quickly to someone less hypocritical, than me. I mean I’m happy to cook prawns as long as I don’t have to be part of their deathπŸ™ˆ
